By upgrading attic insulation according to Dept. of Energy recommendations, it’s possible to cut your heating and cooling expenses nearly in half. Wouldn’t it be nice to save hundreds of dollars every year, while enjoying a higher level of comfort in your home?

Although fiberglass insulation is the most common type of insulation used in most attics, it’s not necessarily the best insulation in certain cases. Due to its light, fluffy consistency, fiberglass insulation can’t stop air movement. Foam insulation can. Foam insulation can’t be compressed and it won’t lose R-value over time. It stays in place once it’s installed.
Two types of foam insulation can be used in a typical attic: spray foam and rigid foam. Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) is usually applied to the underside of the roof sheathing, fully sealing and insulating the roof (see photo).
Rigid foam can also be installed to insulate the roof, either between the rafters or directly below the rafters. These insulation treatments bring the attic space within the home’s “building envelope,” effectively insulating your attic from exterior temperatures.
An attic insulation upgrade with foam insulation is a good investment if you need to use your attic space for storage, or if you’d like to transform an unused attic into living space. It’s also a smart upgrade if your attic has extensive ductwork or HVAC equipment that will operate much more efficiently in an insulated space.
Dr. Energy Saver will inspect your attic and discuss the benefits of foam insulation in your home. Call us today or click below to get started on energy savings for life!
